Yuan Ping graduated from the University of Hull in 2020 with a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Laws degree. He was called to the Bar of England and Wales (Middle Temple) in 2021 and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in January 2023. Following his admission to the Malaysian Bar, Yuan Ping joined the Intellectual Property (IP) division of Shearn Delamore & Co. as an associate, where he served until June 2024.

Yuan Ping brings extensive experience in intellectual property law, spanning trademark portfolio management, IP registration, enforcement, and commercialisation. He has advised multinational companies across diverse industries—including digital banking, telecommunications, technology, medical devices, retail, aviation, and food and beverage—on safeguarding their brands globally. His experience includes representing clients in enforcement raids, and trademark, copyright, and patent infringement and passing off actions. Yuan Ping aims to deliver effective solutions, including using mediation to align competing stakeholder interests. He has also developed intellectual property policies and conducted training sessions to strengthen corporate IP strategies.

In addition, Yuan Ping also provides strategic advice on commercial transactions, including franchising, software development, and non-disclosure agreements with a focus on IP provisions. His regulatory compliance expertise covers cross-border issues such as parallel importation, gaming laws, transportation regulations, and GMO labelling requirements.

Yuan Ping’s contributions extend beyond his legal practice. He has organised food distribution initiatives for underprivileged families in collaboration with Kechara Food Bank as part of corporate social responsibility programmes. Committed to mentoring future legal professionals and shaping the development of the legal profession, he has guided university moot competitions, mentored interns, and provided support for Disciplinary Board hearings.

    • Represented fashion, retail, manufacturing, and automotive brands in enforcing trademark rights and copyright protection, securing undertakings, facilitating domain name and website takedowns, and supervising raids conducted by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.

    • Negotiated the settlement of a trademark dispute on behalf of a consumer goods company involving counterfeit goods. Mediation was successful by refocusing the discussion on the need to disclose the upstream supplier of the goods, enabling the client to take effective action against counterfeiting.

    • Represented a power solutions provider in a utility innovation infringement case, focusing on the tests for infringement and novelty in relation to the technical attributes of the subject matter. Industrial Hardware Supply Sdn Bhd v Sinowaja (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd [2022] MLJU 2565.

    • Acted for a multi-level marketing company specialising in essential oils in a trademark, copyright, and passing-off dispute over the unauthorised use of its documents, information, and trademarks to establish a competing business. E & F Essential Sdn Bhd & Anor v Harmony Network Plt & Ors [2024] MLJU 177.

    • Represented an e-commerce platform operator to resist an application for pre-action discovery on the basis that the operator was under no duty to monitor listings to ensure non-infringement of third-party rights.

    • Provided strategic advice to an automotive company on the digitalisation of its payment services.

    • Advised a foreign gaming company on local gaming laws concerning cross-border marketing, communication, and ancillary activities.
